MAC Flower Power Budding Beauty Lipgelee & Bows & Curtsey Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

The MAC Fashionflower Collection includes a bevy of eyeshadows, lipgloss, lipstick and a beauty powder.  The powder products include an embossed floral daisy design across it.  I love makeup in limited edition packaging or any other diversion from the regular product line, such as embossing.  I passed on the beauty powders, but my mini haul included Budding Beauty Lipgelee and Bows & Curtsey Eyeshadow.

Budding Beauty Lipgelee is a pinky coral with reflects gold.  It comes off a bit sheer, but great for a bit of shimmer and color.  It is not sticky or tacky, but will stick to hair if you get your hair close enough.  It has a thinner texture than that of regular MAC lipglass  and has a vanilla scent, similar to most MAC lipsticks.  This is a typical squeeze tube lipgloss style packaging that I like for on the go.  It is just so much easier than pulling a wand out.

Bows & Curtsey Eyeshadow is a frosty metallic dark green in a satin finish.  It seems a bit dry when swatched, but works well as a crease or above crease shade.  Remember the Chanel Noir Obscurs Eyeshadow Quad?  Well this shade looks quite a bit like the green from the palette, but works a lot better when used.

The MAC Fashionflower Collection didn't really wow me, except for the cute embossing on the eye shadows.  I do like both items I had purchased, but I probably wouldn't have gone too much out of my way to get them had they been sold out.  I think the MAC Lipgelees are definitely something to pick up for those days when all you want to wear is just lipgloss without any fuss.  They're also a little over 3 times the size as regular lipglass, so they last quite a bit longer.

Have you picked up anything from MAC Fashionflower?  Anyone out there with some love for MAC Lipgelees like me? ;)

Super Longlasting Lip Color: Maybelline Superstay 24 Color 20 Continuous Coral Review & Swatches

In search of just a bit of color, I came across the Maybelline section of the drugstore that had a huge variety of cosmetics on sale. The bargain hunter in me thought, well time for a new lipstick, or maybe lipgloss?  I came across Maybelline Superstay 24 Color Lip Color, a hybrid longwear lipstick in a gloss packaging.

I picked up 20 Continuous Coral.  It is a delicious shade of bright shimmery golden pink-coral.  It's that kind of shade that draws attention and can balance out  a dramatic eye.  It seems to run neutral, I've been able to pair it with both cool and warm looks without much of an issue.

The packaging consists of a double ended stick.  On one end is the lip color with a doe foot applicator while the other is a clear gloss.  The doe foot applicator is a bit on the big side, I wish it were a little bit smaller.  It is long and wide for my liking, bringing out more product than I think most would need.  The clear gloss end is a typical balm that adds some moisture and enhances the color with a bit of shine.

Now the big question is wear time and how well does the product performs.  The product is described by Maybelline as,"24-hour lipcolor that stretches the limits of longwear."  It has, "Micro-Flex formula glides on and looks gorgeous all day," and, "No crumbling, no caking, no fading, no feathering, no transferring."  I gotta say the description is it pretty darn close to perfect for the first 8-12 hours.  I have used it on many occasions without it budging at all, except for when I've eaten something oily. eg. fries or fried chicken. In that situation, I'll see more color transfer and fading when eating.

The true test was the 24 hours of wear.  I gotta be honest that after 3 meals, many drinks, some snacks in between, a shower and some face washing, looking at my lips 24 hours later I still had some product on.  No, not perfect, but there was enough there that I had to take some MAC Cleanse-Off Oil to take it off.  Big thumbs up on long wear!

While I didn't have any feathering or bleeding (even on my bleeding prone lips!), I did see some caking and crumbling along the corners of my lips when I applied too much product.

If you're interested in a long wearing lip product with a bit of shine all in one, this is definitely one to check out.  Just be well advised that it is not one too move much without some good makeup remover.  ;)  These retail for approximately $10-$12 Cdn each and are available at many drugstores across Canada.  I am totally loving this and am eager to pick up more. :)

Soft & Lovely: MAC Ladyblush Cremeblend Blush Review & Swatches

MAC released some new formulations of cream blushes earlier this spring in the form of the Cremeblend  Blush.  They are described on the MAC site as, "A blush that manages to make a simple blush state-of-the-art. Creamy, easy to blend medium coverage formula imparts a natural finish that's smooth, dewy-fresh, long-lasting."

I got myself Ladyblush, a warm neutral coral that provides a natural glow without going too bright.  If you're a fan of MAC Melba (permanent), Buff (permanent), Gingerly (permanent) or Secret Blush (limited edition),  this shade would be one to check out.

The formula of this isn't thick or heavy on cheeks.  The weight of it is much like MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation but slightly thicker. The texture doesn't change the staying power.  It hangs out tight for about 4-6 hours, but lasts close to all day when set with a coordinating blush.

As for application, I tried applying this with fingers, a MAC 187 duo fibre brush and a MAC 192 cheek brush (similar to  MAC 190 foundation brush, but narrower).   My favorite application was using my fingers as the MAC 187 brush tended to be a bit too light of an application and the MAC 192 brush tended to pick up too much product.  This particular shade never seems to get too dark to become to obvious once lightly blended out.  In other words, this would be amazing for those who tend to use a heavy hand with blush.

Overall, I totally love this.  I've been using it at least 4 out of 7 days a week since picking it up after Easter.  Now that may be out of habit, but I think its more so that I can wear it with pretty much anything else without it being overpowering. I think the formula is great and this particular shade is definitely worth a look.

Catch Up Time! Some Major MAC Haulage From Days Gone By

For some of the regular blog readers, you may have notice I hadn't done a lot of MAC Cosmetics blogging as of late.  I wasn't hiding it, I was just on a bit of a shopping ban for 40 days.  For those of you who are not Christian, it is common to give up a particular activity for some or all of Lent.  I chose a tough one, being no shopping for 40 days of clothing, shoes, accessories, random take out lunches and (the BIG ONE!) no cosmetics. (& What is the name of my blog???? ;) Haha, well I'm back to a wee bit of shopping, just mini hauls of only a few select items.

As hard as it was, I did make it in one piece and made only a few purchases once Easter arrived. Since I had missed quite a few MAC launches, I only picked up 7 items at the MAC counter.  My wallet was very happy to only let go of a small amount of funds rather than the major new release hauls of past.  :)  I got Budding Beauty Lipgelee, Stovepipe Black Eye Shadow, Bows & Curtsey Eye Shadow, Hot Gossip Lipstick (yea for B2M!), Ladyblush Cremeblend Blush, Prolongwear Concealer NW35 and a foundation pump.

Overall I am pretty proud of myself.  I proved to myself I could do without shopping for random things so much. My worry was that I would have regrets to not be able to pickup goodies from the new collection.  Actually, I had little to no regrets of items being missed out.  I'll be honest, the only item I wish I could go get now would be Playtime lipstick from the Quite Cute collection.

I  promise to do full reviews of most of the products very very soon.  (None for the foundation pump though, it's just a pump that delivers just enough foundation :)  Hope you enjoy the pictures of my happy hauling :)
