LOTD: Going Pink MAC Show Orchid, Superflash! Superglass, NYX Pinky and Gimme That!

Every once in awhile I like to do a bright pink fuchsia or magenta lip. One of my recent adds to my lipstick collection is MAC Show Orchid. It is an amplified creme finish that is richly pigmented, so I find myself blotting just enough on to get this lip look. I lined with NYX Cosmetics Pinky Liner, then topped with a dollop of both MAC Superflash! Superglass and MAC Dare to Wear Lipglass in Gimme That!. This look will be sure to grab everyone's attention. I'd pair this with a neutral eye look or perhaps big lashes and some liquid liner. Nothing too much as your lips will be the center of attention.

NOTD: H&M Bella's Choice Nail Polish

H&M's line of beauty products is all too pretty to look at while in the checkout line. While picking up a new pair of shorts, I got Bella's Choice Nail Polish. It is a creamy light turquoise, in the similar shade range of Essie's Turquoise & Caico's (yes, got that too & will do a post ;). Bella's Choice runs a little bluer and as such a tad cooler. It does go well with my turquoise Coach Op-Art Kristen Hobo bag ;)
Edit: Just a note on the formula. It is a cream finish, no visible sparkles, frost or shimmer. It does take some time to dry, so set aside at least an hour to get 3 coats dry. As well, this formula runs a tiny bit thick. I used Seche Vite Restore to thin it out and make it easier to apply. As well, my oops, forgot to mention I paid $5.95 CAD plus tax for this at H&M. ;) Swatches are done with Seche Vite Top Coat for perfect high shine glossiness.

LOTD: Creamy Beige Nude Lips with MAC Cherish Lipstick & On The Scene Cremesheen Glass

A beige nude lip is just the trick to set off a dramatic eye with flushed cheeks. One of my favorites is topping MAC Cherish Lipstick, MAC Boy Bait Cremesheen Glass and lined with MAC Naked Lipliner. I usually use Boy Bait Cremesheen Glass that adds a bit of pink and some creaminess, but On The Scene adds a bit of coral peach to prevent a corpse like lip. Perfectly suitable for a neutral or warm look with a dramatic eye and flushed cheeks.

LOTD: Sparkling Peachy Lips with MAC Color Me Coral Lipstick & MAC Disco Blend Superglass

A sparkly peach lip is just what I felt would be best for this hot summer day. It doesn't steal the show, but doesn't underwhelm against my tanned skin (no not on purpose! Just the flaw of working near the beach and doing lots of walking ;). MAC Color Me Coral Lipstick is a pale frosty pink coral but topped with MAC Disco Blend Superglass, the resulting lip look is less frosty but more sparkly with a bit more depth.

LOTD: MAC Snazzy Dazzle Lipstick & MAC Creme Allure Dazzleglass Creme

Just another lip look that is a bit more red than pink. I haven't used many MAC Dazzleglass Creme's lately for some reason or another. Sticking with yesterday's sheer plummy lip look, I topped MAC Snazzy Dazzle Lipstick with MAC Creme Allure Dazzleglass Creme. While I like this look, I think I should've added a lipliner just to prevent some of the lip bleeding I am having with this combo. Posted by Picasa

FOTD: Not Quite a Naked Face

This is my not quite naked face. Yup, I am definitely one of those girls that has to leave the house with something on. While I won't wear this to the gym or going to the grocery store to pick up a few things, this is a simple go to look for me. I wear this fairly regularly, especially with only a few minutes to spare. In short, it is shimmery nude champagne eye shadow, pinky coral blush, pinky coral lipgloss, black liner and mascara. Not too hard to do and not too hard to replicate ;)

I won't get into directions, since there's little instruction needed for just a single eye shadow look ;). So here's what I used:

MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation, C4
Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Wet/Dry Eye Shadow, Gold Rush
MAC Eye Shadow, Embark (as brow powder)
MAC Kohl Power Eye Liner, Feline
MAC Opulash, Bad Bad Black
MAC Blushcreme, Blossoming
MAC Blush, Fleur Power
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish, Warmed
MAC Dazzleglass, Baby Sparks & Utterly Posh

LOTD: MAC Snazzy Dazzle Lipstick & MAC Fabulous Fun Dazzleglass

I have a soft spot for sheer lip looks. To prevent a sheer lip from looking lost on the lips, most would use a lipliner, but with a stronger deeper lip shades, a sheer lip doesn't end up looking completely lost. Take this pinkish purple lip using MAC Snazzy Dazzle Lipstick and MAC Fabulous Fun Dazzleglass. The combination results in a lip look that is strong enough to not look lost and better yet, it is still suitable for the transition period from summer to fall.

Sparkly Good Times: Stila Jewel Eye Shadow Palette Review & Swatches

The Stila Jewel Eye Shadow Palette is filled with four beautiful shades of sparkly fun. I picked mine up at one of my favorite cosmetic stores, Murale for $42 Canadian. It includes a pale pink shade with silver sparkles, Rose Quartz. A golden champagne shade with gold and silver sparkles, Golden Topaz. A purpled taupe shade, Amethyst. As well as a black shadow with silver sparkle, Black Diamond.

I have to admit the eye shadow that drew me in most at first was Black Diamond. Black with sparkles? Reminds me of last fall's MAC Style Black Collection that I absolutely adored. Unfortunately, these eye shadows are middle of the road in pigmentation. Not sheer, yet not quite as pigmented as the regular line of most Stila Eye Shadows. The most amount of pigmentation I got was using a sticky base such as MAC Bare Study Paint Pot and applying the eye shadows wet with a MAC 242 brush (significantly stiffer than a MAC 239 brush by the way ;). Applied dry, I get fair to good pigmentation with fallout along my cheeks. So I much prefer to apply these wet.

However (and more excitingly ;), these eye shadows do pack on a lot of shimmer. The shimmer is not chunky or heavy to look garish. A little bit of Golden Topaz along the inner third of the lower lashline gives you a bit of a starry eyed angelic effect that I quite like.

I personally wouldn't wear all four shadows in one look. I think it may be too much shimmer. I would mix it up and use them with other eye shadows in varying textures. I think the colors in the palette do work well, it would just be a lot of shimmer all at once! Of course a face of the day will be soon to come :)

FOTD: Olives & Golds with Wind Me Up

There's something about the MAC Dare To Wear Lipglass that just makes me want to wear it as much as possible and perhaps get a backup or two. Here is a look I did using olive and gold eye shadows to compliment the warm tones of Wind Me Up Lipglass.

What I used:

Eyes:
MAC Paint Pot, Bare Study
Gosh Cosmetics Shimmering & Waterproof Eye Shadow, Love That Moss
MAC Eye Shadow, Dreammaker
MAC Eye Shadow, Sumptous Olive
MAC Eye Shadow, Fiction
NARS Soft Touch Eye Shadow Pencil, Aigle Noir
MAC Powerpoint Eye Liner, Feline
MAC Opulash Mascara, Bad, Bad Black
Urban Decay 24/7 Liner, Stash

Cheeks:
MAC Mineralize Blush, Happy Together

Lips:
MAC Dare To Wear Lipglass, Wind Me Up
MAC Lipliner, Mouth Off
MAC Lipstick, Jazzed

Directions:
Apply Bare Study to inner third of lid with a MAC 217 brush. Apply Love That Moss directly to middle and outer third of lid, as well as above crease. Apply Dreammaker to brow bone and inner third of lid with a MAC 239 brush. Apply Sumptuous Olive to middle and outer third of lid, as well as above crease with a MAC 239 brush. Apply Aigle Noir to crease and blend out with a MAC 219 brush. Further define crease by applying Fiction to crease with a 219 brush. Blend out edges with a 217 or 222 brush. Line lower lashline with Fiction applied with a 219 brush. Tightline upper and lower waterline with Feline. Curl lashes and apply mascara. Apply Happy Together to cheeks with a MAC 131 or 187 brush. Line lips with Mouth Off. Apply Jazzed lipstick and top with Wind Me Up Lipglass.

LOTD: Still Loving Summer with Creamy Coral Peach Lips

Summer is still here, I think! It's been a bit gloomy and clouded over with a smattering of rain over the last few days. Bright skies are sure to come soon, I hope ;) My summer looks tend to lean warm, so a pretty shade of coral peach is just one possibility. For this lip look, I used MAC Costa Chic Lipstick, MAC Utterly Posh Dazzleglass and MAC Mouth Off Lipliner. Mouth Off is definitely needed for me to define this lip look. Utterly Posh just gives a little bit more sparkle without going over the top :)

Aren't MAC product names wonderful??? Just thought I'd have a little fun with some of those product names in the title today. For this look I used several MAC Pigments applied wet and blended out with a dry MAC 217 brush. I must say that it really brings out the shimmer level a lot! MAC Gimme That!, Wind Me Up and Ban This! Dare To Wear Review and Swatches

MAC Cosmetics Dare To Wear Collection features 6 new fabulous limited edition lipglasses and 16 daringly bright shades of eye shadow. While I have yet to pick up any eye shadows, I did get three lipglasses. I was able to get Gimme That!, Wind Me Up and Ban This!

Gimme That! is a hot pink with pink pearl. It flashes with a bit of blue and pink pearl. Think of MAC Girl About Town Lipstick or perhaps even MAC Show Orchid Lipstick.

Wind Me Up is medium bronze with pink and orange pearl. If you are a fan of MAC Utterly Posh Dazzleglass, you are sure to like this.

Ban This! is a vibrant purple with blue, purple, pink and white pearl. Needless to say, its got a lot of bling. It's totally one to use for a dramatic look. I think this would look great layered over NYX Sparkling Orchid Lipstick or MAC Violetta Lipstick, both vibrant shades of violet purple that lean a little cool.

They are quite unlike typical lipglass. I must say that it is a wonderful change :) The formula of these three lipglasses is extremely smooth, creamy, slightly sticky and well pigmented. The colors are vibrant and rich. The pearl shimmer is non-gritty and refined. They seem much like a liquid lipstick, rich in color yet glossy and shimmery.

Is there a downside to these? Well yes, the applicator. Its your common doe-foot applicator, which can be a bit difficult to control on the outer edges of my lips. I would've preferred a brush for greater control of the lipglass. I would definitely suggest using a lip liner, apply a bit on the lips and then pressing lips together to blot it out. A lot goes a long way with this formula!

I love these, I just hope MAC will come out with more shades :) Lip swatches and lip combo's are soon to come :)

LOTD: MAC Snazzy Dazzle Lipstick & MAC Spanking Rich Dazzleglass

The weather is slowly getting cooler. Summer is waning away and fall is coming. With the arrival of fall, I look towards darker lips with a bit of sheerness. This lip look fits the bill with MAC Snazzy Dazzle Lipstick and MAC Spanking Rich Dazzleglass. Sheer and plummy, that's what I'll be wearing this fall :)

LOTD: MAC Milan Mode Lipstick & Fabulous Fun Dazzleglass

One of my favorite things to wear and look done is use bright lipstick, some pale pink blush with a bit of gold shimmer, then loads of mascara. Not a lot of effort, but pretty statement making in any case. This is one such bright lip, using MAC Milan Mode Lipstick and MAC Fabulous Fun Dazzleglass. Fabulous Fun has some pretty pink and purple reflects glitter in it for some extra bling.

Beauty & Fashion Combine! H&M Lipgloss Review & Swatches

On a recent visit through H&M while picking up a pair of sandals, I came across their cosmetics line. While limited to lipgloss, nail polish, hand creams, shower gels and lotions, there's a small selection of shades and scents.

Out of all the items, I was most drawn to the lipgloss with their zebra print handles. Hula Hula in Hawaii and Coco Kiss in Aruba both landed in my shopping bag. Hula Hula in Hawaii is a shimmery bright strawberry pink with pink and blue pearl. Coco Kiss in Aruba is a frosty cool light brownish beige with silver pearl. Both smell like sweetened synthetic berries. Both shades have low pigmentation and are much more suitable over a lipstick or other lip product. On their own, they are quite sheer. Between the two there is very little difference on the lips. The texture is not sticky, fairly glossy and only slightly gritty. After three hours of wear, there left very little on the lips and required application. Needless to say they didn't last through much drinking or eating.

At less than $7 a tube, each tube contains 0.24 fl oz (7 mL), roughly half the size of MAC Superglass and larger than MAC Lipglass (4.8 grams, 0.17 fl oz).

Seems like everyone is launching a beauty or cosmetics line to grab us by the wallet ;) Unfortunately, I don't think these are ones I'd pick up in the future. While I like to use scented lipgloss, I find that the scent is a tad overpowering for application throughout the day. I prefer ones that have less scent or at least a scent that I am interested in. A substitute that comes to mind is Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss. They are available in a wide variety of scents and shades that commonly go on sale for 5 for $20 or even better. In any case, I will use these until they go bad, but more so for the glossy shine factor.
